What are Searchbug Search Tokens?

What are Search Tokens?
Search Tokens ($T) are Searchbug’s micropayment system. A micropayment system is used for e-commerce transactions. It allows you to make purchases that cost very small sums of money to avoid having to run your card for each of those charges.
Micropayments require digital wallets. Upwork uses micropayments to pay freelancers who find work on their site. A freelancer on Upwork might find a few odd jobs for less than $100. Rather than pay out these small sums for every project, after a freelancer accrues, say $1,000 in work, then Upwork might initiate a transfer from the digital wallet to the freelancer’s bank account.
PayPal also utilizes the digital wallet concept. You can reserve funds in your PayPal account, and when you make purchases, it is deducted from that balance rather than charging to your card. This “prepaid” model is similar to Searchbug’s $T.
Micropayment sizes vary from business to business. PayPal might define any purchase under $10 as a micropayment while Searchbug considers transactions under $5 as micropayments.
For example, $T are the equivalent of $0.01. So 100 $T equals one dollar. Since many of Searchbug’s individual searches cost less than a dollar, rather than charge your card a few cents here and a few cents there, you can purchase a bank of $T (stored in your Searchbug digital wallet) and use those to pay for your searches.
How Do Searchbug’s $T Work?
If you have an account already, just click on the $T icon in the top right of the page after you sign in. If you don’t have an account yet, sign up and you can access the same $T icon on the top of the page.
Then, you can select how many $T you need and click Buy Search Tokens. It’s as simple as that!
Remember, the more $T you buy, the more bonus tokens you get. For $25, you get 2500 $T + 200 bonus tokens. For $50, you get 5,000 $T + 500 bonus tokens.
And, if you are a new user, you have 14 days from when you sign up to collect additional extra tokens with your first $T purchase.
Your $T balance will show in the top right of the page when you are signed in. When you pay for services using $T, the associated amount will be deducted from your balance.
Search Tokens do not expire as long as you are an active user. However, they cannot be refunded. Search Tokens have no cash value and therefore cannot be exchanged for cash. If you close your account or if your account is terminated due to violation of the Searchbug Terms of Service, any unused $T will be lost.
Do I Have to Use $T?
Since the point is to avoid a bunch of small charges to your credit card, all instant online Searchbug services under $5 must be paid for using $T. This includes services like reverse phone number lookup, SSN verification, people searches, instant phone validation, instant email validation, background checks, and zip code lookups.
You can still use your credit card to pay for other services. API, batch, and investigator services must be paid for with credit card since they cannot be purchased with $T.

Of course, paying with $T prevents your card from being charged multiple times for small purchases. But there are other benefits as well.
