Locating someone with only a PO Box [2020 Update]

Question: I need help locating someone with only a PO box. I am looking for my birth father and ran a basic people search. But the only address listed is a P.O. box across the country from me. What can I do?

Answer: Great question. And one that we get asked a lot. So I’ll answer it here for everyone.

This is a common problem for a lot of people. You’re looking for someone. But all you can find is a PO box. I want to tell you  right off the bat: please, don’t lose hope. It’s still possible to locate your friends and family (or debtor or deadbeat) with a Reverse PO Box Search.

Here’s how that works:

Basically, you must fill out a 1093 form and produce evidence to prove your physical address when you apply for a PO box. This prevents fraud and stops illegal goods from being anonymously mailed to PO boxes.

What that means is PO Boxes are usually rented for legitimate reasons and registered to the person who rented them. Now, on occasion, someone will convince someone else to rent a PO Box for them (undocumented citizens, business partners, domestic partners, etc).

But, once someone has a PO Box they typically forward their mail from the physical address. The can even use the PO Box as a billing address for credit cards or business dealings. This address will get into many “systems,” both public and private. Investigators can obtain data from these public and private systems.

The investigators that use Bestpeoplesearch (searchbug.com) to sell their services have a great deal of success obtaining physical addresses by doing a reverse post office box search. The same typically applies to personal mailboxes. Personal mailboxes are mailboxes like Mailboxes Etc., the UPS store, Postal Annex, and the other private mail box companies.

If you need help locating someone with only a PO box, get a reverse PO box search.

Or you could remove this post and not provoke stalking which is also done by psycho exes and psycho former friends who also happen to be psycho debt collectors with criminal history :/

I am trying to locate my husband in order to obtain a divorce, but all I have from him is a P.O. Box. I have tried to do a reverse P.O. Box search but I am just hitting dead ends. I literally have no money to pay to find him. He also has three children with his ex wife, and has a $25,000 warrant for his arrest for unpaid child support. I am also being sued for a lease situation that he is part of, and I can’t find him. Please help, I need advice on how to locate him. Thank you!

Child support enforcement agencies through the family court in your district will help to find him. Good luck to you.

This makes me feel super good. Being silly. I have a mental and very psycho cousin I have never met. She found me a few years ago via Google and contacted the office I had been working. She got my cell phone number. We did connect and she seemed semi sane. Things went rather sideways after year and half. I stopped all communications with her. Suddenly out of clear blue she sent email to me asking how I am and that she found out a brother 3000 miles away had died in February this year. I ignored her.

She said she had some money she owed me and needed address. That she did. All I did was email the PO Box and zip. Have never heard another word and the witch has never sent me ten cents. My mind races wildly wondering if she is going to find me and drop a bomb at my residence. I’m in Oregon and she is in Texas. Seriously…I do believe she is crazy and maybe bi-polar or just mad!! Can you possibly make me feel safer by telling me this is not truly possible? Thank you . I feel un at ease. Much appreciate a reply.

I received a very malicious letter yesterday with postmark from Atlanta Metro. I do not know anyone living in that area. The return address was a POBox number in Buford, Georgia. The letter was signed with only the initials HC. Is there anyway to find out to whom the POBox belongs. The letter was quite disturbing and threatening. Thank you for any help you can offer. If I have a p.o. Box number but no name can I find out the name?

    • Jacob N
      Jacob N says:

      Hello Gail,

Unfortunately, I can’t give you a definitive answer to your question.

If the information is available and reported, it is possible. With just a P.O. Box number, I suggest trying our Reverse Address Lookup search tool.

This tool will let you conduct the search for free using our basic results. If the search offers premium results there is a slight fee to obtain the info.

If the results provide a name and you want to try and get a physical address from the name and P.O. Box, you can continue with an assisted search which you can review here. Assisted P.O. Box Search.
