Before Dispatch: Is This Lead Inside the Service Area?

ZIP Code Radius for Field Service Area Checks

The Challenge:

Field service teams often receive a lead or service request with a ZIP code before it reaches dispatch. Without geographic context in the intake workflow, the team may need to perform a separate check before deciding whether the request fits the company’s service area.

ZIP-based data can help provide that context, but it does not replace routing, travel-time, or scheduling analysis. The cleanest control point is before scheduling, when the team can review the geography and apply its own service-area rules.

The Solutions:

Searchbug’s ZIP in Radius API can be called through real-time XML or JSON using a ZIP code and defined radius. It returns city, state, county, population, and number of businesses for the area, giving operations a geographic data point to review before the request reaches dispatch. The result supports the company’s own territory review but does not route jobs, assign technicians, calculate drive time, or determine capacity.
