Remove, Update and Add Listings

Free People Database
SearchBug free listings originate from the local telephone directories and several other sources. You cannot add or update a listing, but you can remove it from our database.
The "Remove" link is located in the upper-right corner of the Listing Details page. You will need to check the "I Agree" box and re-enter verification code (it prevents possible automated removal requests). Removal is immediate, but it only affects SearchBug database. You may want to check with your local phone company to make your phone record is unlisted. This will prevent your listing from showing up in most of the other people databases on the Internet.

Public Records
The public records database is complied from real property records, death records, magazine subscriptions, voter registration and other public sources. There is no way to add or modify a record, however you can request to block your records from being shown in many, but not all, of the public record search results.
To request removal, you should write a letter providing your first name, middle initial, last name, aliases and A.K.A.'s, complete current address, complete former addresses (as was as you know, up to 20 years back) and date of birth. This information will be kept confidential and is used to ensure complete suppression of your records. Please also enclose your email address or a self address stamped envelope and we will provide record of the records being suppressed. It is also very helpful to include a print out of the records that you wish to have suppressed.

Send this letter to:

If you have a problem with sign-up, login, billing or have questions about removal of your personal public record, please make sure to read Public Records FAQs.

There is also "Report Incorrect Listings" link on top and the bottom of business listings. Use it to quickly report the problem.

Free People Search

Quick Search
The search form located on the homepage is the most simple way to search for people. Just enter person's name and location. Acceptable name formats: [Lastname], [Firstname Lastname], [Firstname M Lastname], [Lastname, Firstname] or [Lastname, Firstname M.]. Acceptable location formats: [ZIP Code], [City, State], [City] or [State]. Don't enter the brackets. To find people anywhere in the United States, leave the location field blank.

Find People by Name
This most popular form allows you search for people by full or partial name. You can enter full name, just lastname, just first name, or initials (one letter for either name part). Check the "Similar" box to include similar name matches (e.g. Rob, Robert, Bob, Bobby, Bobbi or Smith, Smyth, Olsen-Smith, Smith-Boone), otherwise we will search for exact matches only.
If you know the location, specify either city and state, just a city, just a state or zip code. If you specify ZIP code, we will ignore the city and state, and will automatically determine a valid city/state combination for the entered ZIP code.
SearchBug can resolve city aliases even if the entered city is not a standard postal city. For example, you can enter NYC or Manhattan and get the results for New York, NY. We also verify if the specified city is valid for the selected state.
When you check the "nearby" box, we will search the metro area or county based on the entered city-state combination or zip code. The name of the searched nearby area will be indicated on the top of the results page.

Find People by Phone
The reverse phone number search can be used to find the owner of home phone number. You can type-in full or partial phone number starting with area code in any format. At least 6 first digits are required.
Sometimes area codes change/split and the old number you have may now be associated with a new area code. To address this issue, we allow you to select a state and enter phone number without the area code. In this case, you need to enter at least 3 digits that follow the area code.

Find People by Address
The reverse address search allow you to search for the person's name and phone number by home address. You can also get a list of all people living at a particular street if you don't specify the house number and enter street name only in the address field.
Our people search engine understands any entered street format. Here are some examples: 123 Main, 351 W 42nd St, 900 5th Ave, Main Avenue E, Broad St West, Taft Blvd, Crystal Cove, etc.
In addition to the address you need to specify a location - city and state, just a city, just a state or zip code.

Advanced People Search
This is the most flexible search option. It has very few limitations or required fields. Enter as much or as little information you know. Most of the rules described above apply to this form as well (e.g., "exact", "nearby", city aliases, city/state/zip code combinations). There are some additional non-obvious search features available.
You can specify house number ranges in the House Nr field (e.g. 50-70) in addition to specific number or none.
For ZIP Code, enter either full 5 digit number or just few initial digits (e.g. 901 will search in zip codes 90100 - 90199)

Search Results
If more than one listing found in the free people database, you will see the People Search Results page. If only one listing is found, you will see the Details page for that listing.
With more than one page of listings you will be able to sort and filter the search results. Sort and Filter switches are located in the top-right corner of the Results page. Click once to show Sort or Filter option. Click again to hide it.
Sort option will allow you organize the listing in a particular order. You can sort by up to three different fields at the time.
Filter option works similar to MS Excel AutoFilter. It is useful for viewing a subset of the search result. The drop down boxes will allow you to pick unique names, addresses and area codes for filtering.
Search Results can be displayed in a printer-friendly format for easy printing. The print button is in the top-right corner of the Results page. Click on it and on the next page push the "Print this Page" button.
In addition to free listings, Search Results page also displays Public Records results, if available. These are actual results, not fake one like on some other sites. Public Records is a fee-based service with access to unpublished and historical data.
To see the listing details click on the person's name or the Details link under the name. The History link will take you to the Public Records search results for the select person.
For your convenience a combination search form is available at the bottom of the results page. You can switch between "By Name", "By Phone" and "By Address" search options without refreshing/reloading the page. This is helpful with follow up searches.
When no free results are found, we try to explain why and what your next steps should be.
